In his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 20, 2026, Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of Canada, and erstwhile advisor to the Trudeau Liberals, invoked the writings of Vaclav Havel on the world stage. His speech, a Rorschach test of the Canadian political landscape, is insulting to admirers of Havel who have been inspired by him as individuals to take consequential risks to live within the truth under oppressive regimes around the world.
