OP-ED: Carney’s weakness on Hamas and Israeli hostages shamed Canada

For two long years my wife and I have worn the now well-known Israeli dog tag and the yellow ribbon pin that called for the release of the hostages.
For two long years I’d often wake up with a sense of despair over a feeling that the whole world had ganged up on us and that closeted anti-Semites had found a convenient reason to unleash their Jew hatred.
Israelis, however resilient and bonded with each other, felt very much alone.
But Monday we laughed, cried and danced with emotion as we watched the final 20 hostages released into their parents’ arms— after 730 long days in the darkness of the terror tunnels.
I could never understand why many in the world couldn’t see that Israel had a right to defend itself against the horrific atrocities of Oct. 7/23 when 1,200 Israelis were pulled from their beds and brutally raped, murdered and burned by Hamas terrorists.
Another 250 were taken hostage to Gaza.
Eight Canadians died on that day and both Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney did (and have done nothing) to avenge their deaths or to get their bodies back.
Hamas had broken yet another ceasefire on Oct. 7/ 23 and it was clear that appeasing terrorists — by ceding land and giving them endless pots of money —has not worked.
Carney was so proud to tell us he’s given Gaza $400-million of taxpayer cash, refusing to understand that Hamas has consistently used the money to build terror tunnels, to feed their bellies and to enrich themselves.
It was used for everything but humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
I repeat. Appeasing terrorists did not and does not work.
On Monday — auspiciously Thanksgiving Day in Canada — while the world watched as the final 20 brave hostages were released — it was made abundantly clear that peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through strength.
I repeat. Peace in the Middle East has been achieved through the strength of a powerful leader with the determination to make it happen — US president Donald Trump.
Say what you want about Trump — and indeed the TDS continues unabated — but he had the insight and political acumen to read the room.
I am truly thankful for everything he’s done.
He didn’t tour the Mideast apologizing to Arab leaders as Barack Obama did, a president who truly led from behind and who lit the match by helping to fund Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
He didn’t simply ignore the situation or lecture Israeli president Bibi Netanyahu to stop trying to eradicate Hamas in Gaza as sleepy Joe Biden did.
Thankfully Netanyahu didn’t listen.
Here in Canada, an incompetent, narcissistic leader who did nothing to improve our country’s image on the world stage or to support the Jewish community — Trudeau — was replaced by an even more narcissistic but dangerous leader who stabbed the Jewish community in the back.
Leadership is not proposing that terrorists be rewarded by givingi them their own state, as Mark Carney did right on the cusp of the Jewish New Year, or blaming Israel for fighting back or using the genocide narrative to stoke more anti-Semitic sentiment in Canada.
Carney and his two pals, UK president Keir Starmer and French president Emmanuel Macron are said to have made peace harder with their dangerous move.
He also embarrassed this country on the world stage with his weakness and appeasement. He can brag that Hamas thanked him three times.
This meme describes them perfectly:
On a serious note, I hold Carney, Ontario premier Doug Ford, our daffy mayor Olivia Chow and Toronto police chief Myron Demkiw personally responsible for the vile anti-Semitic acts in my adopted city of Toronto over the past two years.
The same could be said about major urban centres across Canada, in particular Montreal, where mayors have appeased the Jew-hating terrorist element to shore up votes with the Muslim immigrants.
It disgusts me that Carney is even in Sharm el-Sheikh doing a photo opp and pretending he had anything to do with the peace deal.
He is truly a legend in his own mind.
But as we’ve been reminded, this is just the first step.
Judging from the ongoing protests here in Canada and in the United States, it tells me that this has never been about freeing Palestine but about pure unadulterated Jew hatred.
Pictures already displayed on social media by the haters of the aftermath of the bombing in Gaza are meant to continue the indoctrination of weak minds.
War is war and there is never any suggestion that Hamas brought this on on Oct. 7/23.
As Canadian families of hostages reminded us in a webinar on Sunday that we in the Jewish community must continue to expose and fight back against the Jew hatred.
Here in Canada and in North America, we must be vigilant about the Gazans whom Carney and the Liberals are allowing into Canada without proper vetting (I’m guessing) and the hate and radicalization that might ensue.
We must expose and fight back against the indoctrination in our school boards and our universities.
And we must never forget who let us down, who never supported us during these difficult two years — including the Red Cross and other so-called relief agencies.
I will never forget who didn’t have our backs.
As I’ve noted, my wife and I are heading to Israel next month— a trip that will be all the more meaningful after the events of Thanksgiving Day.
Well said.
