OP-ED: Carney’s global ego trip is costing Canadians dearly
"It makes me think Carney suffers from terrible judgment, an extreme case of FOMO (fear of missing out) or the narcissistic belief that he is far better than Trump."
If it’s Tuesday, it must be Paris.
Next Tuesday, it will be China, followed by Qatar and then Davos for the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Prime Minister Mark Carney — the travelling man — wouldn’t miss the WEF for the world. After all, he is a member of the WEF’s Foundation board and was up until January of this year, special envoy on climate change at the UN.
These two trips will bring Carney’s world travel to 32 trips in nine months since becoming Prime Minister — on average three trips per month.
His last two were to Halifax to give Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky another $2.5 billion in economic assistance — a nice little Christmas present —followed by a short hop to Nanaimo on Dec. 29.
Canada’s commitment to Ukraine since 2022 has reached a total of $22-billion.
It seems Carney doesn’t travel cheaply either.
Tuesday’s overnight trip to Paris — a meeting with the Coalition of the Living to hash out security guarantees for Ukraine — cost journalists $5,300 for hotel, flight and catering (if they chose to go).
Heaven knows what the tab will be for eight days in China, Qatar and Davos, Switzerland.
I know abundantly well why he’s visiting Qatar. Since becoming PM, Carney has repeatedly condemned Israel while cozying up to the Arab state.
As for visiting China, it may be one more nail in the coffin of a potential trade deal with the U.S., considering Trump’s government has pulled away from relations with China.
It makes me think Carney suffers from terrible judgment, an extreme case of FOMO (fear of missing out) or the narcissistic belief that he is far better than Trump.
He thinks he’s above reproach and has shown he cares little about the average Canadian.
Trump has many successes to show for his first year in office. He gets things done, unlike Carney who appears to have nothing to show for his jet-setting around the world.
If he did, he wouldn’t be so secretive about what occurred on each of his trips.
True he has been adept at rubbing shoulders with his European pals and trying to be the anti-Trump — for example, by assuring the president of Denmark on Tuesday that he will help protect Greenland (from the big bad orange man).
Yet he looks weak and ineffectual on the world stage and disinterested in managing domestic affairs.
The streets of our largest cities are rife with people who hate Canadian values. But he and his inferior cabal of ministers keep letting the same people into Canada, simply for votes.
How could he take care of domestic affairs when he’s on the road so much?
Canada is still without a trade deal with the United States and he makes no secret of his arrogant disdain towards our country’s largest trading partner.
Asked in November about the deal, he said trade talks will resume “when it’s appropriate” and in his usual flippant style responded “who cares…I’ll speak to him again when it matters” after being asked when he last spoke with Trump.
Trade talks were derailed when Ontario premier Doug Ford stupidly aired a $75-million anti-tariff ad featuring clips of Ronald Reagan.
Between Carney and Ford, it is hard to tell who is the bigger child/egomaniac.
That said, it was Carney who duped so many Canadians into thinking he’d have his Elbows Up when it came to hashing out a deal with Trump — that he had the intestinal fortitude to give Trump a run for his money.
But he’s failed miserably. All he’s done is convince a cult of easily manipulated Canadians into thinking Trump is the big bad orange man and they should stay home this winter instead of travelling south to escape the cold.
Canadian tourism in Florida and other sun destinations is down. It’s not just because of those ignorant Canadians who’ve been triggered into hating Americans but because the dollar is weak and the economy is in the dumpster.
A recent Leger poll (taken in mid-December) has found that nearly half those surveyed have lost trust in Carney’s ability to handle Trump and to negotiate a fair trade deal for Canada.
It’s depressing to think that those of us who believed Carney didn’t have what it took to lead Canada and get a deal with Trump were right.
I find no joy in the country’s decline under the leadership of a man who doesn’t understand geopolitics, has no interest in doing the hard work at home, turns up his nose at accountability and refuses to “lower” himself (in his mind) to do what’s right for Canada.
You won’t hear any criticism in the legacy media, however.
It’s also depressing to think that most Canadian media outlets won’t dare criticize Carney or ask him hard questions for fear they’ll lose their bailouts.
Little wonder he gets away with trotting around the globe in search of validation on the world stage.

"It makes me think Carney suffers from terrible judgment, an extreme case of FOMO (fear of missing out) or the narcissistic belief that he is far better than Trump."
TERRIBLE JUDGMENT
NARCISSIST
Thank you Sue-Anne and indeed correct but may I add...
A liar and a fraud in terms of what he sold himself as to Canadians and those who foolishly voted for him although he is being true to his real friends in The WEF, his Globalist and UN buddies and of course his Environmentalist friends and his good buddies at Brookfield. Of course first and foremost there is whatever happens must be to the benefit of Carney himself.
If you noticed Canada was not mentioned above that is because Carney is not here for Canada never has been, never will be.
This three passport holding guy travels the world thinking for some reason anybody cares about him or what is left of Canada on the world stage when at best he has earned the smallest seat at the Children's Table.
Such is where a once wonderful and respected country now stands on the world stage.
An intentional destruction which started in 2015 when a sock-loving, Mr. Dress-up with questionable intelligence was foolishly elected as its PM.
What a shame.
Carney is all talk, no action ,no leadership and like Trudop loves the photo ops but has accomplished nothing since being in office except increasing Canada's debt and sending a lot of money offshore. He continues the Liberal legacy of bankrupting Canada
