OP-ED: Carney supporters are in denial about the last nine years of Liberal failure
Sue-Ann Levy writes: "Mark Carney and the Liberals are running a Kamala Harris-type campaign. Instead of acknowledging the last nine years of chaos and mismanagement."

You might call it the best definition of insanity—that is, repeating the same thing over and over and over again expecting a different result. Or a gross case of Entitlement combined with “Trump Derangement Syndrome.| Or maybe some Canadians are at this moment in time very insular and easily indoctrinated by the legacy media.
I just spent a week visiting my 91-year-old mom at her Toronto retirement home. Over dinner and after I too often heard the more articulate woman residents — meaning the ones who still discuss and follow politics — talking about how Mark Carney was so smart and the best person to lead Canada.
It made my hair stand on end.
One woman at the next table, upon hearing I was Conservative, started whispering to her dining companions so I couldn’t hear what she was saying about Carney.
Another perfectly nice woman announced to me that she was ecstatic that her daughter was running for the Liberals against popular MP Melissa Lantsman.
I told her that her daughter was brave but she wouldn’t have a chance against Lantsman in the heavily Jewish riding.
Lantsman is a smart, articulate woman devoted to her constituents and to fighting anti-Semitism.
Frankly, and I didn’t say it to this woman, I found it difficult to conceive how any Jew could run for the Liberals, let alone vote for them after the past 18 months.
At least one woman, when I challenged her outrageous assumptions, offered that perhaps she wasn’t watching the right media.
Well yes, that could be.
Still there are many others — in that home and elsewhere — who seem to have filed the past nine years away in the part of their brain marked “Denial.” Or as I’ve often contended, voters’ memories are extremely short. By voting Liberal, they still think they’re progressive and relevant.
Let’s face it.
Mark Carney and the Liberals are running a Kamala Harris-type campaign. Instead of acknowledging the last nine years of chaos and mismanagement, they are running against President Donald Trump, his tariffs and Pierre Polievre, capitalizing on the legacy media’s portrayal of the Conservative leader as Trump-like.
Harris claimed repeatedly that Trump would divide the country (even though it was already divided) and that only she could bring back joy and sanity. Carney repeatedly puffs up his short stature in his attempt to prove he’s tough enough to take on. Trump — even though no wide scale tariffs were put in place on April 2.
The legacy media eagerly mutter his talking points, most without scrutiny.
Like Harris, he has promised to undo the damage of the past nine years, even though he’s a Liberal and his paw prints were all over Canada’s fiscal misfortunes since 2020, when he left the Bank of England in what many say a far worse state than when he started in 2013.
Reports say he had the “reverse Midas touch” and did nothing to improve the British economy.
He was a close advisor to Trudeau during the pandemic and was one of the first to recommend that the Freedom Convoy protesters be hit hard —that is in their pocketbooks — for daring to protest peacefully against the Liberals’ draconian COVID policies.
A week later, according to reports, the bank accounts of key participants were frozen.
That’s the move of a dictatorship. As I said, memories are short.
Like Trudeau, Carney has done nothing to stop anti-Semitism in Canada. In fact, three days before he called the election, he contributed $100-million to rebuild Gaza (or should I say Hamas).
He has said nothing, zip, zilch about tackling runaway immigration or rampant crime in the country. Like Harris, he is a left-wing radical who will be very dangerous for Canada. But let’s shift back to those ladies in my mom’s retirement residence—and far too many others.
I can’t give any of them a free pass, especially since the atrocities of Oct. 7, 2023, and the Liberal support of terrorist sympathizers. But no doubt fed a steady diet of Liberal and anti-Polievre talking points by the legacy media and having happily swallowed Carney’s BS without heaven forbid, changing the channel on their TVs, they appear to be convinced that he will be the best to lead Canada through the crisis the Liberals themselves created.
I repeat: The crisis the Liberals created and which appears to have been forgotten in the Stockholm Syndrome-ish attempts by Carney and Co. to offer Canadians a choice of either being on the inside of the fight or the outside looking in.
Undoubtedly this is the best definition of insanity: Voting for the same Liberal hacks and liars over and over again and expecting Canada will suddenly be economically sound, that hateful immigrants will no longer pray or terrorize innocent people on our downtown streets with impunity, that drug addiction and the crime that goes along with it will go away and we’ll all be dancing in the streets like the actors in those ridiculous Ozempic commercials.
Or maybe it’s a clear case of cognitive dissonance. Perhaps the ladies in my mom’s retirement residence have an excuse.
But what about all the other boomers and assorted others?
They simply don’t want to hear any opinions or facts that contradict their view of reality and their feelings of entitlement.
This folks, is why our country is in such a precarious state.
Liberals are adept at preying on people’s emotions and wilful ignorance — and inciting the worst rage and divisiveness even in people you thought were friends.
I hope that in the next 25 days, more people will have a “Come to Jesus” moment like they did south of the border.
I pray the Liberal liars will be sent at long last to the dust heap.
As a reasonably informed Jewish senior (now in the 80+ category), I find it somewhat unfathomable that so many purported fellow-seniors would even consider the possibility that four more years of Liberal government - particularly under the leadership of Prime Climateer Carney - would be of benefit to any Canadians of the reasonable and responsible kind.
I wonder how many of the sign holders were bused in and paid to attend like his other fake rallies.
