Even before Detective Helen Grus began asking about the COVID vaccine status of mothers whose babies died after Health Canada recommended the shots for pregnant and breastfeeding women, the 23-year veteran of the Ottawa Police Service had already raised the hackles of police brass by pressing them for answers about looming vax mandates.
In September 2021 – a month before OPS imposed mandatory COVID vaccination – Grus sent an internal email to all force members, including then-Chief of Police Peter Sloly, expressing “serious concerns with the worldwide silencing of doctors, virologists, biologists, pharmacists (and) psychologists etc.” who conveyed skepticism about the efficacy of lockdowns and the fast-tracked COVID vaccines.
“Will OPS take full legal and financial liability for any injuries, adverse effects and/or death occurring to members following the receipt of any EUA (emergency use authorization) vaccine potentially mandated?” Grus asked.
For this, she was labelled an anti-masker and anti-vaxxer and instructed by immediate supervisors to cease discussing or debating all things COVID at work. By the time Grus’ superiors learned she was probing a link between the COVID vaccine and an uptick in infant deaths in the capital region, the fix was in.
Following a Professional Standards Unit (OPS internal affairs) investigation, Grus was charged with discreditable conduct, dragged through four years of disciplinary tribunal lawfare, found guilty, and on August 18th penalized with a 24-month demotion from 1st class to 2nd class constable.
Recent revelations that Anthony Fauci, former chief medical advisor to the US president, knew COVID shots could cause miscarriages were particularly timely given the culmination of Grus’ lengthy disciplinary affair. Unfortunately, they had no purchase with OPS or the tribunal, which plodded ahead with punishing Grus, behaving as if it were still 2021 and all COVID pronouncements by officialdom were irrefutable sacraments. Those following the Grus story already know that expert medical witnesses set to give evidence at her tribunal that she was correct to suspect COVID shots could be responsible for infant deaths were denied live testimony.
While Canada’s political and legacy media classes, as well as law enforcement, remain seemingly oblivious to the harms of COVID health protocols, including dangerous side effects of mandated experimental COVID vaccines, the rest of the world is starting to recognize the reality that these drugs resulted in a tsunami of serious injuries and untold deaths, including infants and in-utero babies. Before Health Canada stopped publishing COVID vaccine injury data in January of 2024, it had recorded more than 488 post-vax deaths and 6,781 serious post-vax injuries, including 96 miscarriages.
But in his decision, tribunal adjudicator Chris Renwick (retired OPS superintendent) said Grus lacked “executive consent” for her inquiries and failed to keep an adequate record of them; behaviour Renwick concluded was aimed at hiding her activities, which were driven by her own COVID biases.
Conversely, Grus insisted during her tribunal testimony that grieving parents, their deceased infants and wider public safety formed her motivation and that she even brought concerns about a spike in baby deaths to Sloly and other OPS brass during a January 2022 meeting, weeks before she was suspended for declining to reveal her COVID vaccine status.
“I will defend my actions, babies are dead… (and) there are so many loving, caring parents who are without answers,” Grus told the tribunal in May of 2024 of her probe, after noticing a “two or three times increase” in infant deaths compared to pre-COVID vaccine years.
Grus’ phone call to the father of a deceased infant to ask about the mother’s COVID vaccine status also formed the nexus of OPS’ professional misconduct charge.
“My duty as a police officer is to preserve life and property, preserve the peace. And if I see any one of those situations arising where I need to step in to preserve life, I will do something, and that’s what I did in good faith as a police officer.”
Bear in mind that her supposed discreditable conduct occurred when she was a detective in OPS’ sex assault and child abuse (SACA) unit, specifically tasked to investigate all child deaths under five that occur outside of a hospital. In this frame, minus the BS about inadequate note-taking and hiding her activities, Grus was literally doing her job. Police services across Ontario are expected to follow the Royal College of Pathologists’ Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) protocols, which include asking parents and caregivers of deceased infants about drug use, both street drugs and pharmaceuticals. Grus also testified that during her inquiries she found active cases in which these portions of the SUDI were not completed.
But back in the COVID sacrament vacuum where Grus’ disciplinary fiasco lives, it’s likely her testimony that criminal negligence could be at play – given assurances by public officials that COVID vaccines were safe – combined with what Renwick called her “lack of remorse”, which sealed her fate.
In his March 2025 finding of guilt, Renwick writes, “A reasonable person would understand the community’s collective response of concern should they have learnt that such unauthorized criminal negligence inquiries on public officials were being undertaken by a criminal investigator within SACA.”
Renwick reiterated this sentiment during the punishment hearing, citing new Ontario legislation governing police investigations, suspiciously enacted midway through Grus’ disciplinary tribunal in April of 2024.
“This includes ensuring that the proper authorization, oversight, and resources are brought to any controversial criminal investigation or ones with political overtones,” said Renwick.
Given how entrenched OPS and Renwick are on this point, it begs consideration of how “the collective community” might react if it learned that experimental COVID vaccines had indeed caused the death of innocent babies in Ottawa. Because Grus has been stopped from pursuing this line of inquiry, the surviving parents and wider public may never know the answer. Whether one agrees with Grus or not, controversy surrounding her actions remains, and because lawmakers also assured the public these drugs were safe, political overtones are inescapable.
Adding salt to Grus’ wound, Renwick admonished her for not admitting any wrongdoing, adding that this would negatively affect her career going forward, including a promotion to sergeant that she was on track to receive before the COVID panic.
Renwick also noted that the more media coverage her case gets, the more OPS’ reputation suffers, and laid blame squarely at Grus’ feet while ignoring the illegal leak from inside OPS of confidential information to CBC, which precipitated the original media scrutiny. Like OPS, CBC’s March 2022 portrayals of Grus and her vaccine inquiries are also laced with incredulity at the same time citizens had to show their COVID vaccine papers to order a drink or get a haircut.
But is it really Grus’ actions that bring OPS into disrepute, or that OPS has punished a mother and dedicated cop with an impeccable record and cost her $392,000 in legal bills to date because she asked the wrong questions?
As more information about COVID vaccine harm enters the public domain and on the cusp of Conservative MP Dean Allison’s own COVID vaccine injury probe scheduled for Parliament Hill in September, the obtuse irony of Renwick’s remarks is thick as a cheese wheel. But irony aside, the real world fallout is much worse, according to Grus’ lawyer Bath-Shéba van den Berg, who told reporters after the hearing that if the tribunal’s decision is allowed to stand, “That rule of law is dead here in Canada.”
“(Renwick’s) sending a message to all police officers: you no longer are autonomous, you no longer have discretion…and if there is a public safety concern that is born from the hands of the government, that there will be no accountability.”
Grus plans to appeal Renwick’s findings of guilt and her demotion at the Ontario Police Arbitration and Adjudication Commission.
Helen, along with Lich, Barber, and many others are Canadian heroes. The heads of police forces across Canada...not so much.
There is so many that will have to stand before God and answer for the harms that their actions caused. Detective Helen Grus will not be one of them. Since they couldn't shut her up thankfully. I think they had to run a show trial and still made fools out of themselves. Detective Grus PLEASE keep asking the hard questions so many of us need answered.
