While this story makes some sense, they missed one of the biggest issues. And that is our healthcare system is flooded with foreigners. The author of this article needs make a few visits to the er and out patients waiting rooms. They are swamped with them. So, in part immigration is to blame along with over use of useless bureaucratic control.

I think the failure of our health care goes far beyond Alberta. The current system is failing everywhere.

I don't believe that there is enough wealth (not money as it can be printed endlessly) in the world to pay for health care as we are going about doing it.

We need to completely rethink our health system from the ground up. The focus needs to on health, with care as an after thought. (People who are not sick do not require costly care) This needs to start with children growing up in safe communities, with access to healthy local food. It needs to focus on healthy communities with control over thier own destinies. It needs to recognize that health is holistic and humans are not just machines with inputs & outputs.

We also need to focus on creating community based health where neighbor assists neighbor as much as possible, and families provide care to members as much as possible. Institutional care (which is expensive) needs to be the last, not first resort.

Over the last 20 plus years Canadian hospitals have sent “executives” to France, Germany, Sweden etc. to look at private-public health systems. Very little has been implemented in Canada because if it is raised during an election the Liberals and NDP scream that it is “the end of Medicare”. This scares the baby boomers and nothing happens. Enormous population growth does not help either because it derails the planning process. Think Public good Private bad? Just google “Health Care Fraud London Ontario”.

We need to get better at keeping ourselves healthy and stop slowly killing ourselves and expecting the "Doctors " to save us!

Look what the AHS has done to Alberta's no.1 cancer doctor , Dr Makis ... This org. Is seriously in need of reform

Unfortunately..our "Health system" that we're presently witnessing across the country..IS the REFORM..

I'm quite amazed that that doctors are paid before treating a patient. Really? if that's true. Why? In my 50 years of service to customers, i received payment after the service was completed and if not done right or properly, I was required to to do it again and get it done properly. Do you think doctors should object to that type of pay system. I have great respect for doctors and the system, but first things first.

Alt & BC have far too many NDP managers in the health care system . Ideology trumps care this way and nothing gets done . Manitoba is going to find out very shortly about this .

Smith fired , I believe 11 of the top health officials, but did not nearly fire enough all the way down the line . BC needs to do a couplet house keeping as well because they are well entrenched after far too many years of ndp in power . Lots of chiefs, and few indians as the saying goes .
