Ontario school boards are continuing to pay extravagant salaries long after top officials have already stepped away from their roles.

Ontario’s Sunshine List tracks public sector employees paid $100,000 or more every year, and the 2025 release, reflecting 2024 earnings, shows former directors of education still collecting substantial compensation.

At the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), former director of education Jeewan Chanicka, received $277,000, placing him among the board’s highest-paid employees despite no longer actively working there.
