An Ontario school board has paid an Ojibwe artist, who calls himself a “traditional knowledge holder” and “storyteller,” over $570,000 since 2022, according to freedom of information records obtained by Juno News.

Records show the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board paid Isaac Murdoch more than half a million dollars for cultural camps, language programming, murals, ceremonies, videos and books in just over two years. The board is currently under provincial supervision following financial mismanagement.
