The provincial government has reportedly sent suspension letters to 1,200 truck drivers in Ontario, alleging they cheated on their Class A driving tests.
I am generally horrified when I am driving on the highway at the way a lot of people now drive however in the past most of that blame went to auto drivers but no more.
When I see how a lot of those who drive trucks now disregard safe lane changes, tailgate or worse I feel increasingly unsafe whenever I get near a truck.
This was not the case a few years ago.
... SO ... Good on the Ministry but somehow I don't feel any safer at the moment.
Good luck on these people to surrender their drivers license, you say they basically got it through fraudulent terms, and they knew it!!! The government will be collecting them at their next accident scene. Dougie boy is working with Carnage on collecting them at Canada centres, what happened to Ontario sites,…. I guess he knows nothing will be done by Federal employees?
The truth is you can even have an interpreter help you acquire your drivers license which seems rather odd, you should be able to read the signage on highways, particularly in construction zones .
It's about time someone is starting to crack down on these drivers. Needs to be done nationwide. Here in BC it's a major problem too. As a longhaul truck driver for nearly forty years I've seen how our industry's reputation has been destroyed by these scams. Also no licenses should be issued to anyone who can't speak or read English. The exception maybe Quebec but the French Truckers I've met who travel outside of Quebec could all speak and read enough English to be able to communicate to do their jobs.
Absolutely correct. If you can't clearly communicate in English and French, without an accent that makes someone impossible to understand, you can't safely perform many jobs. That's why we use to have language requirements for immigration. People need to be able to be understood for safety purposes. That goes for a great many professions. It's a serious issue. I had a vet, he was a very nice guy, but his English was so bad both myself and my husband couldn't make out anything he was saying. We grew up in a very multiethnic area and were both good with deciphering most accents, but he was just impossible to understand. That creates a risk, because we couldn't understand what our pet needed. So we had to go to another vet.
This has been a huge problem for Canadians for a few years. I would hope other provinces take notice and check the licencing scams in their jurisdictions. Not only do fake licences make the roads unsafe US has intercepted how many trucks driven by our immigrant communities hauling drugs in American and at the borders? Is this more pressure being applied to Canada's Liberal government to crack down on gangs, cartels and money laundering by Washington?
Monica: In the unlikely event that these fraudulent drivers will give up driving for their equally questionable employers (likely from the same demographic), the 90-day suspension is meaningless. Another shameful example of how far down the toilet this country has been taken over the last decade of Liberal 'governance'. Dougie Fraud has proven himself to be Liberal in action if not in name. These suspensions are toothless, and too-little-too-late.
Do you seriously think that these Indian immigrants are going to suddenly start to obey our procedures and our laws? The truth is they do not care they also do not speak our language cannot write in our language and do not speak our language therefore why were they ever given a license they cannot read. Every track infringement or broken law immediate deportation no questions asked Deport immediately remigration!
This is wishful thinking that these immigrants are going to suddenly follow procedure and Obey our laws. The other factor is they don't speak right or read English so how the heck are they going to know the rules of the road. Quite frankly they don't give a damn. Every driving infraction Deport no questions asked re-migration!
Of course they knew it was fraudulent, half the driving schools in Canada are owned by foreigners... surprising??? I dont think so. We can thank our Canadian Government for this!! We need to start standing up for ourselves and stop this immigration process
I agree with what you're saying but licensing is a provincial not a federal matter. The Feds caused (and continue to be the source of) the immigration problem, for sure, but they are not responsible for the licensing schemes.
Good on the Ministry for having the guts to cancel all these licenses but how in the world did they do the cheating? I just had my age 80 renewal test and it was very professionally administered by Ministry staff.
Most likely Uncle Pindermander Singh owns the driving school and, for a price, issues licenses like they came with a side order of buttered chicken. Here in Alberta, at least, licensing has all been privatized and it's almost impossible to drive past or beside a Driving School car that does not contain someone with either a turban, a beard or both.

1200 is the 1st batch?
This needs to happen Canada wide.

Decades, not a few years. BC has had a serious issue with fraudulent licensing since the 90's.
What I would like to know is what happens after the 90 day suspension? Are their driver’s licences reinstated?

Ear pieces and cameras, with holes in clothing, apparently.
