Ontario Liberals dismiss Erskine-Smith’s nomination appeal
Ontario Liberal leadership candidate Nate Erskine-Smith’s appeal of his Scarborough Southwest nomination loss has been dismissed, keeping Bangladeshi businessman Ahsanul Hafiz as the party’s candidate
After Liberal MP and Ontario Liberal leadership hopeful Nate Erskine-Smith alleged “irregularities” in the Scarborough Southwest nomination contest, the Ontario Liberal Party’s arbitration committee has dismissed his appeal, finding no irregularities.
The decision means Bengali-born Ahsanul Hafiz, who won the nomination by 19 votes, will remain the Ontario Liberal Party’s candidate in Scarborough Southwest in the next provincial election.
The loss poses a challenge to Erskine-Smith’s leadership bid. He still intends to resign from the federal Liberal Party, which he said he would leave to pursue the provincial leadership.
