Nova Scotia Education Minister slams parental rights
Brandan Maguire launched a blistering attack in the legislature, rejecting parental rights and defending state intervention in families.
Nova Scotia’s Education Minister Brendan Maguire delivered a raw, personal attack in the legislature this week. He rejected parental rights outright while defending state intervention in families and dismissing concerns over secret school transitions and taxpayer-funded surgeries for teens.
Maguire crossed the floor to the Progressive Conservative Party after ten years with the Liberals.
The outburst came during a debate on child welfare. Maguire responded to a member who quoted reporting from Juno News and Citizens’ Alliance of Nova Scotia, which highlighted Nova Scotia Health data on genital surgeries approved for patients under 19.
