Nova Scotia’s only Catholic hospital will lose its religious designation this fall, opening the door to abortion and on-site MAID after more than a century of Catholic oversight.
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital will become Antigonish Memorial Regional Hospital on Oct. 1 after the Sisters of St. Martha decided to withdraw their name from the institution they have served for 120 years, according to Saltwire.
The hospital’s Catholic Mission Assurance Agreement will expire Sept. 30, ending religious restrictions that prevent abortions and “assisted suicide” from being performed inside the hospital.
