I have heard that if you walk slowly in the bush your rubber boots will not create sparks and cause fires.

Can anyone say Marxist.

What I want to know is how will they catch the one that are intentionally setting fires and will they get jailed and fined. My thought is not very(…..) likely

Would you be surprised to learn the fires were set by paid actors to create the scenario and justification of draconian measures “for the greater good”? Sounding familiar?

No where near surprised Dianne. I like the days when this kind of stuff wasn't even a thought by our politicians

I appreciate you raising awareness of the impending climate lockdowns, but I think the Nova Scotia restrictions truly are wildfire aversion related. My reasoning is here: Fire and Ice – The On-going Climate/Wildfire Lockdown Controversy

Know which War to Fight and Win https://open.substack.com/pub/michellestirlingg/p/fire-and-ice-the-on-going-climatewildfire?r=f96qu&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false HOWEVER, that said, please do keep an eye on the growing calls for a National Wildfire Agency - because the climate mob is determined to turn that into a Climate Disaster Agency, and from there will stem all kinds of rationing and a command economy, as outlined in "A Good War" by Seth Klein and "Victory Plan" by Ezra Silk (frmr Greenpeace) of the Climate Emergency Mobilization group of Margaret Klein Salamon of the USA. Here is CITY News interviewing an academic who claims GHGs cause wildfires and the activist group "Last Generation" and their demands of a Climate Disaster Management agency. https://x.com/ryangerritsen/status/1955868729327116646 I did an interview with Tom Nelson about these kids and about the 'climate cartel' that the US is in the process of dismantling. https://youtu.be/t12DNGHXfGQ

More background on why I think Nova Scotia's rules are actually trying to prevent liability and wildfire risk - and not a climate lockdown. Nova Scotia’s Fire Ban – Overreach or Wide Awake after Jasper’s Megafire

Mass punishment is never about anything except power and control. Forestry management and appropriate enforcement of existing laws are all that’s needed.

"arson and mismanaged debris burns top the list of causes. Hiking doesn’t even register"

Presumably the arsonists were in the bush when they started the fires. That is the point.

Also, smokers might also hike and in the end, 50% or so of forest fires have human origins. If humans aren't in the bush, the likelihood of fires is cut in half.

I don't think the people who are shouting freedom and rights have been on the wrong side of a forest fire or had to deal with their aftermath. In Nova Scotia after the Barrington fires, people are scared xxxxless of fires and we are now drier than we were in 2023.

The Barrington fires were not put out, they burned themselves out - firefighting took the form of defending structures long enough for the fire to go around. In Canada, many communities, probably a majority, are built into forests. A major fire is unstoppable as we saw in the case of Fort Mac.

Prevention is the only defence so suck it up and balance your rights with your responsibilities.

I am not against forest fires per say. But I am against one taking My freedom away . Fires are a way for regeneration of plant life. Use Your common sense and look around You . If there is fuel it will burn . Clean up the fuel , cut back the forest to a reasonable distance from property. Let the prisoners earn their keep for a change and have them do some of this work. Arsons will be with Us no matter How many laws one may have . Look at gun control. Has It worked, as an example? Live and let live.

The provinces have tried ASKING people to be responsible during their fires. People are NOT listening to common sense. If a hiker is stuck in a fire zone this then diverts firefighters from their fighting to secure the hiker. The fine is the stick after they tried the carrot. Yes a good hiker will not set any fires but that doesn't mean they wont get in danger from a sudden change in fire direction. Yes it is stupid that they have to do this and likely the fines for hikers will go down but consider the effort needed to get one out of trouble... so either help the fire fighters or stay put. There are other days you can go for a walk.

Probably in opposition to most if not all subscribers here I feel the ban is necessary. The frivolous banter against the ban is not illogical or lacks common sense. Anyone who has ever had the responsibility to ensure the safety of individuals, property or just regulations know there are steps needed to be taken at times that create inconvenience and or difficulties. Those decisions are not made lightly or without thought. The decision is made due to and because of those who suffer from moments of forgetfulness, common sense and or total stupidity. Common sense tells me serious hikers and trail users will not be a hazard but it also tells me that there can be an individual who will be a hazard. There was a fire in BC not that far in the past when a resident of a forestry community was working in his back yard. His activity caused a fire that destroyed hundreds if not thousands of acres, some buildings and a lumber mill which put employees out of work for several years. Yes we all have the right to have our own opinions and state them. I just hope and wish that we as individuals think why: is it a personal inconvenience or is it really a detriment to our liberties (like covid lockdowns). Personally I don’t see the ban is anywhere near the same as the covid lockdowns which definitely was an infringement on our freedoms. THIS IS MY OPINION; PLEASE TAKE IT AS MY FREEDOM TO SPEAK TO A SUBJECT AND NOT AN INFRINGEMENT ON YOUR FREEDOMS. PLEASE ACT TO YOUR BELIEFS AND NOT S..T ON ME AND BECOME WOKE-LIKE IN YOUR ACTIONS.

Most people are careful with their actions but most of the forest fires across Canada were caused by humans. I travelled by bus to northern Manitoba and at one of the stops a few people got out and some were smoking. When the driver called them to get back on the bus one of the smokers had a half smoked cigarette which he casually flicked in the air while it was burning. So people are their own worst enemies.

Deeming it illegal to walk in the woods with a view to preventing forest fires is little different than deeming it illegal to drive a vehicle anywhere with a view to preventing traffic accidents. If that makes sense to anyone, maybe that person shouldn't be running the province of Nova Scotia.

Keep up the good work you're doing Melanie. And many thanks to Jeff and Peter for what they are doing too.

It is simply old fashioned common sense to put restrictions in place until fire season ends, or heavy rains occur, to help prevent the horrific loss of life, homes, costs of potential forest fires! Everyone needs to step back and get over this asinine idea that we’re loosing freedoms for some interior dark motive! The out-of-control behaviour and words from supposedly normal folks just screams - lack of critical thinking!

True enough, Marilyn..but with the dumping of thousands of 'asylum seekers' throughout the country..(and the planet)...the massive taxation on US to foot the bill on that (plus the endless scams and corruption) and the re-writing of our laws by a known CCP member, many could empathize with our "waiting for the last shoe to drop" mentality.. oui??

To some degree, I agree Don. What I alluded to are the selfish immediate gratification consumers with a complete lack of what’s actually going on in our country. I have a friend who has no clue about the Bills being quietly passed by Carney, no idea parliament has been in session for roughly only a month in the past year, the depth of infiltration by terrorist factions, the hideous fentanyl production and exporting, on and on. BUT, if a single issue arises that curtails her personal state of complacency….all hell breaks loose! It’s primarily these types I believe, that are screaming about being locked out of the woods. Of course we all remember the idiotic mandates that came with the COVID farce…..brainwashed many and hard to put behind us!! Life does go on though….
