Despite raking in massive government subsidies, Canada’s newspaper industry is still in freefall, with revenues collapsing by almost 20% last year compared to 2022.
When there is little to no credibility left people will look elsewhere.
At least those who have not been brainwashed.
Juno and other independent sources are an examples of where people need to and want to go to find out what is really going on.
If you want BS, Pravda-like (bought and paid for Government Propaganda) then Canada's MSM, pretty much all of them lead by the CBC in TV and either the Toronto Star or the Globe in Print (but you know the others) then are for you.
This is what the Liberal Government has and is counting on so it's good to see their attempts and Russia/China control failing regardless of hundreds of millions in bribes.
Hopefully more to come for them.. MUCH, MUCH MORE.
This doesn't mention radio. Some Freinds were surprised that a conservative Toronto talk show host was very muted on a topic he would been very pointed. 640 am radio. I looked it up- owned by Corus and getting Google funds and worse-- 40% of the 100% percent promised comes after a govt audit. Classic carrot and stick.
What else can they expect when they have become propaganda machines for the government. To them, the only “truth” is their “truth” which we know is not truth at all. Why would we waste our time and money on these “newspapers”?
Let them die. They don’t want to change their business model but rely on government subsidized. Now, they all become government propaganda! Just look at how they treat the federal Conservatives MPs when they were doing interviews with them.
I still read the Edmonton Sun newspaper but have noticed that over the years they cut back to 6 days a week and have reduced the number of pages. Our small town doesn't have much in the way of newspapers. I think the Edmonton Sun is trying to push everyone towards going digital to save them money.
With credibility comes some rewards.

GO JUNO.
GO INDEPENDENT THOUGHT AND MEDIA.
GO CRITICAL and ANALYTICAL THINKING.
Canada needs you now BIG TIME!!!
I was not part of the poll, but back it 100%, the sooner the better to defund all taxpayer funded media outlets, like CBC, CTV!!!
Defund CBC is not enough. We should shut it down!

National Post is offering one year digital sub for $12. How can that be profitable?
And they are one of the better ones.
Not great but better.
Still subscribe to them...
On average somewhat readable in many (not all) cases although some who write for them would be better placed at the CBC, Star or Globe.
