New Westminster police are investigating an early-morning break-in after a woman awoke to the sound of her patio door sliding open.
The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of 11th Street. The resident told police she saw a leg stepping into her home before she screamed, prompting the intruder to flee.
“It’s hard to imagine waking up to find someone trying to enter your home,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver said in a media release. “We’re thankful the resident reacted quickly and called 9-1-1, and we’ll be working to ensure whoever did this is identified.”
Police say the woman was not physically harmed, and the suspect has not yet been located. The investigation is ongoing.
The department is reminding residents to secure their homes, watch out for neighbours and report suspicious activity.
Anyone with information, or who observed unusual behaviour in the area, is asked to contact New Westminster police at 604-525-5411.
