New study finds that DEI practices are largely performative for most companies in Canada

A new study by the Aristotle Foundation, looking at DEI language and hiring practices, found that almost all of Canada’s top companies espouse DEI principles but preserve merit-based hiring.

When looking at Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) language and hiring practices among the top 25 Canadian companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange, all but Shopify provide DEI training, and most include DEI terms and preferential hiring in their job postings.

The Aristotle Foundation released a new study delving into the prevalence of DEI in corporate Canada. They discovered that top firms promote DEI “very extensively,” but that its use is “almost entirely performative,” largely to protect their reputation.
