New $20 banknote unveiled featuring King Charles III

The new denomination marks the first bank note to feature King Charles’ portrait and the first time in more than 70 years that a new monarch has appeared on the $20 bill.

The Bank of Canada has unveiled the new $20 bank note, which features the portrait of King Charles III and the Vimy Ridge memorial monument on the back. The new bill will gradually enter circulation in late February 2027.

“This new $20 bank note is striking, symbolic and secure,” said BoC Governor Macklem on Thursday. “The note’s advanced and dynamic security features are combined with images that reflect Canada’s beauty and its history. I hope it evokes pride in Canada and confidence in its bank notes.”
