NDP MP turned down Liberal offer to cross the floor

The Liberal government’s bid to poach an opposition Member of Parliament has failed, with a New Democrat MP turning down an offer to cross the floor and join the party.
NDP MP Lori Idlout, who represents Nunavut, said she has been approached by the Carney government and was “asked to consider” joining the Liberals.
“I have decided at this point that I can’t. It’s definitely weighed heavily on me, and I’ve had so many conversations with people and I just appreciate everyone who I’ve talked with,” Idlout told CBC News on Monday.
“What they’ve all said is that whatever I decide, it will be what I think is best for Nunavummiut.”
Meanwhile, two former Conservative MPs — Chris d’Entremont and Michael Ma — defected to the Liberals late last year, which surprised Idlout.
“Being asked to cross the floor definitely forced me to think a lot about how I can continue to do my job best for Nunavummiut,” she said.
The NDP MP won her seat in the last general election, defeating Liberal opponent Kilikvak Kabloona by only 77 votes.
Earlier this week, Conservative MP Scott Anderson also publicly rejected a Liberal offer to cross the floor, saying he would not “betray” his constituents.
“It’ll be a cold day in Hell before I even consider betraying my constituents,” said Anderson, who represents the B.C. riding of Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee, in a statement on Monday. “I have no intention of crossing the floor — today, tomorrow, or ever.”
He also dispelled rumours of an internal uprising to oust Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.
“With the complicity of the MSM they’ve promoted the myth that there is some kind of movement to turf our leader, and it’s because they are afraid of Pierre Poilievre,” he wrote. “They’d prefer a milquetoast Conservative leader and not a fighter who stands up to their lies.”
Poilievre called Anderson a man of “integrity and principle,” saying that Prime Minister Mark Carney was attempting to “manipulate himself a costly majority that Canadians voted against.”
Idlout said she would continue to fight for her territory to get the resources it needs. She added that joining the Liberals would prevent her from criticizing their governing as freely as she does now.
“Canada’s policies aren’t necessarily to invest in the people so that we can thrive,” she said. “And when we think about who’s been in government since 1999 for Nunavut, it’s been both Liberal and Conservative governments.”

Crossing the floor should not be allowed at all. If you no longer can represent your supporters and their issues in a way consistent with their wishes, then just stand down and let them vote for someone that will.
The abomination that defines Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada has something really nasty in mind for Canada if they can manage to get a majority.
One of the things though is a totally self serving thing (no I am not talking about the Liberals here in general for everything they do is self serving)... This one involved Carney directly.
After all everything Carney is up to is self serving.
This one though is to get control of all the committees.
The real one he wants control of though is the one that is looking into his huge conflicts of interest involving his investments, particularly Brookfield.
Likely being generous only calling them "huge conflicts".
He desperately wants to shut that down in the same manner he is hiding his investments, hiding his real worth and hiding his assets and bank accounts.
Everything Carney is doing while to the benefit of his buddies in The WEF, his Globalist friends, and others pales in comparison to what he is doing for himself.
Pretty obvious and he wants that scrutiny stopped.
At least at the Parliamentary Committee level where he might have some control over it.
