Ontario Liberal leadership hopeful and Carney Liberal MP Nate Erskine-Smith has filed a notice of appeal with the Ontario Liberal Party after narrowly losing the Scarborough Southwest nomination by 19 votes to Bengali-Canadian businessman Ahsanul Hafiz.

The Ontario Liberal Party confirmed the appeal in a statement on Tuesday but said the nomination process was fair. The statement, shared on X by Globe and Mail reporter Laura Stone, said the matter has been referred to the party’s independent arbitration committee.
