The Motion Picture Association “strongly condemns” the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission decision to force large online streaming providers like Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video to contribute 15 per cent of their revenue on top of taxes to Canadian content.

“The Motion Picture Association strongly condemns the CRTC’s decision to impose unprecedented, unnecessary, and discriminatory investment obligations on American streaming services operating in Canada. This burdensome framework unfairly targets global streamers with requirements that directly violate Canada’s obligations under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement,” wrote Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin in a statement released on Thursday.
