Most Canadians deem China a “security threat” despite Carney’s push to normalize relations
CSIS polling by Ekos Research Associates shows Russia (70%) and China (66%) as top perceived threats to Canada, followed by Iran (34%), India (33%), and Pakistan (21%)
Canadians view China as a greater security threat than Iran, according to CSIS polling released alongside internal federal research. The findings come after Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a “new partnership” with China.
“Half of respondents, 52 percent, feel Canada is more dangerous than it was five years ago,” said the report, Attitudes To The Canadian Security Intelligence Service. “Tracking results indicate Canadians are now more likely to feel Canada has become more dangerous than they were in 2018 or 2021.”
