Ottawa is preparing a massive new subsidy for Canada’s biggest legacy media companies, with Heritage Minister Marc Miller signalling that covering newsroom labour costs is “not a question of if, but how”, and it could cost taxpayers up to $6 billion.

Miller announced Ottawa’s plan to cover the labour costs for Canada’s media landscape by expanding the Labour Journalism Tax Credit to include television and radio news.

During a Heritage Committee meeting on Tuesday, Miller revealed the government's plans.
