A new federal study has found that mass migration is raising Canada’s housing and rent prices, with researchers linking population inflows to more than a fifth of price increases in some cities.
The Department of Immigration report, titled Immigration and Housing Prices Across Municipalities in Canada, analyzed 15 years of municipal data and concluded that new immigrants accounted for between 11 and 21 per cent of the increase in housing prices and rents nationwide.
