Manitoba warns public of “high-risk” violent sex offender’s release in Winnipeg

Manitoba officials have sparked outrage after warning the public that a convicted high-risk violent sex offender is being released into Winnipeg, despite the offender recently serving a 15-month sentence for repeatedly violating his parole.
Public Safety Manitoba announced Tuesday that Burton Randy Thomas, 52, has been released from Stony Mountain Institution and is expected to live in Winnipeg. The notice warns that Thomas is designated a “long-term offender” and is considered “high risk to re-offend in a sexually violent manner,” particularly against females.
