The Manitoba government is forcing a new “action plan” onto schools, claiming it will address “Islamophobia” within the kindergarten to Grade 12 education system.
Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced the Anti-Islamophobia Action Plan Friday. She said it is intended to help ensure schools are safe and inclusive for all students.
“Every child deserves to feel safe, supported and included in Manitoba’s schools, regardless of their faith, background, or identity,” Schmidt said in a media release.
An anti-Islamophobia working group, established in October 2024, developed the plan. According to the province, the group includes community leaders, educators and staff from Manitoba’s education department.
The government claimed the action plan focuses on creating welcoming and respectful school environments through four areas of action.
One area, “Recognize and Celebrate,” aims to highlight Muslim identities and histories within school culture and acknowledge important religious and cultural observances. Another area, “Equip and Empower,” focuses on providing educators with resources and professional learning opportunities to support inclusive classrooms.
The plan also emphasizes “Wellbeing and Belonging,” which includes promoting culturally responsive supports and spaces where Muslim students feel valued. A fourth area, “Partnerships,” is intended to strengthen collaboration between schools and Muslim communities to reflect diverse perspectives within the education system.
The province said the action plan will be implemented in collaboration with school divisions and community partners.
Is the Manitoba government going to show some concern for the real phobia in Canada? It's called Christophobia. You can say and do anything you want to a Christian or one of its schools or churches and no one cares. But, ooooh, look at a Muslim the wrong way, and you could go to jail. Our founding fathers must be rolling in their graves.
