Peel police re-arrested a man and charged him with kidnapping and attempted murder while on release for domestic violence charges.
Muhammad Asif, a 29-year-old resident of the GTA, has been a regular fixture at the Brampton Ontario Court of Justice. Court records show he’s faced charges there roughly once per month throughout 2025.
Having one’s “information sworn in” means the laying of a criminal charge.
Most recently, Asif was taken back into custody on June 2 after receiving two new charges: kidnapping and attempted murder.
When arrested, he was on release for what police are calling “unrelated intimate partner charges.”
Further investigations based on those alleged crimes led police into the new kidnapping and attempted murder investigation, which led to Asif’s re-arrest, Peel Regional Police said in a Wednesday news release.
The re-arrest comes only weeks after Asif was first hit with those seemingly unrelated intimate partner violence charges.
Following those accusations, a subsequent search of the suspect’s home and vehicle allegedly turned up a 9mm handgun and a cornucopia of drugs leading to numerous offences, including uttering threats, multiple firearm possession violations, and several counts of drug trafficking involving heroin, cocaine, opioids, and MDMA.
In their news release, Peel police also alleged Asif was in possession of the firearms despite being under an existing prohibition order.
He remains in custody now until a pending trial, with pre-trial set to commence in early July.
What a great "new" Canadian. Send him packing with the deport button now.
He should have been charged with mischief. That would have kept him in prison. Oh, maybe not.
