A man arrested weeks ago for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old has been charged again.
As True North previously reported on May 5, police alleged Gowryshankar Kathirkamanathan picked up a 14-year-old child victim in Hamilton and drove her to Ajax—nearly a two-hour drive—before sexually assaulting the victim over several days.
On Friday, Durham Regional Police provided an update to the case.
A press release noted that on May 29, members of their Tactical Support Unit and Offender Management Unit executed an arrest warrant at a residence in Ajax, snatching Kathirkamanathan back into custody.
Police said a “further investigation revealed that the suspect was having a sexual relationship with another 14-year-old female.”
In executing their arrest warrant, the same suspect was taken into custody “without incident.”
Kathirkamanathan has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, assault, invitation to sexual touching, making child pornography and being in possession of child pornography.
He has been held in custody for another bail hearing, police confirmed.
Authorities added that the suspect met one of the victims online. They are concerned there “could be other victims.”
They added that the suspect goes by the online aliases “Shank” and “Shankar” along with the username “itsurboigta1” on Snapchat and are encouraging anyone with additional information on the suspect, including other potential victims, to share any details they might have with the police.
