A 68-year-old New Brunswick man has been charged with arson after a massive fire destroyed a historic church on the Acadian Peninsula.
Gilles Mallet of Saint-Simon appeared in Bathurst provincial court Monday after the community’s century-old church was destroyed by fire. RCMP said he was identified as a person of interest and arrested later that day.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has since concluded the blaze was intentionally set. The church was unoccupied at the time.
