A man is facing numerous Criminal Code charges in connection with a daylight shooting at a police station in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood on Tuesday afternoon.
It was just one of four, allegedly separate, shooting incidents in Surrey on Tuesday. The bomb squad was also deployed as a package was left inside the police station, Surrey police confirmed. They shut down the area around the station for hours while the bomb squad investigated further.
Surrey Police Service said officers responded around 3:13 p.m. on October 6 to reports of gunfire near the Gateway SkyTrain Station, in the area of 108 Avenue and King George Boulevard.
Investigators allege the suspect later went to the SPS District 1 Community Police Office, where additional shots were fired before he was taken into custody a short time later.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
Police have identified the accused as 34-year-old Jose Digno Rodriguez Centeno, who now faces multiple Criminal Code charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, assaulting a police officer, and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Rodriguez Centeno remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 10.
The Surrey Police Service says the investigation remains active and that further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
