Peel police say 26-year-old Waleed Khan, who was already on probation for violent offences, has been arrested again in connection with an attempted kidnapping earlier this summer. He has since been released—again—under conditions, including wearing an ankle monitor.
Peel Regional Police allege three masked suspects approached two young women on June 24, around 10:20 p.m., near Britannia Road West and Queen Street South.
The suspects reportedly tried to lure the victims into a light-coloured Audi SUV, chasing and attempting to grab them. Investigators say one suspect may have had a gun and another a knife, before a passerby intervened and the group fled westbound in the vehicle.
The victims were not physically injured.
Police say Khan was taken into custody on August 18 for 33 offences related to kidnapping, firearms, auto theft and other allegations.
A search of his Etobicoke residence allegedly turned up two loaded prohibited firearms—an AR-style rifle capable of automatic fire and a pistol—both with high-capacity magazines, along with more than 110 rounds of ammunition.
Investigators note that Khan was prohibited from possessing firearms and was already on probation for previous violent crimes at the time of his arrest.
Two other suspects remain at large. They are described as Middle Eastern men in their late teens to mid-20s with medium builds. The Audi SUV used in the incident has also not been located.
