A majority of Canadians want the federal government to shrink its bureaucracy and believe services have declined despite significant staffing increases since 2016, a new Leger poll reveals.
An online survey of 1,533 Canadians, conducted July 25–27, found 54% think the size and cost of the federal bureaucracy should be reduced. Only 24% said it should be maintained, and 4% favoured an increase. Among those with a stated opinion, two-thirds supported cutting the bureaucracy. The federal bureaucracy has grown by 99,000 employees since 2016.
