As long we are letting in gross numbers of immigrants, vetted or otherwise, who prefer urban areas we will have no choice but to build newer kinds of homes. One being co-ops of say nine residences of various sizes. This can allow a higher density with the advantage of the majority being allowed to evict an undesired minority. This created homogeneous collections of residents, all wishing their preference: quiet, criminal, sportive, child-centred, etc. Another is to build single-family homes but with built-in apartments for those who need to rent.
I'm not sure I like the idea of the co-ops as described, but the suggestion of building single family homes that include a rental suite sounds like an excellent idea.
