Liberals urged to expand foreign worker permanent residency pathway

As Canada gears up for its 2026-2027 immigration cycle, mass immigration advocacy groups are pressing the federal government to loosen eligibility rules for a new permanent residency program, arguing that an even larger number of temporary foreign workers should be granted a path to permanent residency.

The government’s current plan aims to grant permanent status to 33,000 temporary foreign workers over the next two years.
