The federal Liberals are moving to consolidate their newly secured majority in Parliament, tabling a motion to reshape House of Commons committees in line with their expanded seat count following a trio of decisive byelection wins.

Government House Leader Steven MacKinnon claimed the move was consistent with parliamentary convention, arguing that committee representation should reflect the will of voters after the Liberals reached 174 seats, crossing the threshold for a majority government.
