Liberals push online speech censorship at convention

Policy package targets AI youth access, misinformation and platform regulation

As Liberal Party members gather for their national convention in Montreal this week, a package of proposed policy resolutions outlines new restrictions on artificial intelligence, expanded oversight of online speech, and increased regulation of digital platforms.

Several of the proposals focus on youth access to technology, framing AI and social media as emerging risks to mental health and public safety.

On restricting access to AI and chatbots for children and teens, Liberal members state that these technologies are contributing to “loneliness, depression and feelings of inadequacy.”
