Liberals outsourced budget speech for $12K despite 23-person team
The government paid an outside contractor more than $12,000 to help write the annual federal budget speech for the finance minister.
Despite pledging to reduce spending on consultants, the federal government outsourced a recent budget speech even though the finance minister already has a 23-person communications team that costs taxpayers millions each year.
The government paid an outside contractor more than $12,000 to help write the annual federal budget speech, one of Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne’s central responsibilities.
“Why are taxpayers paying so much money for communications bureaucrats if we’re then forced to pay thousands [for] getting outside help to do their homework?” said Franco Terrazzano, Federal Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
“If Winston Churchill found time to write speeches while fighting the Nazis, it’s a good bet Champagne can find some time to write his own speeches,” he added.
