The Liberal government has left taxpayers without a federal budget watchdog, despite knowing the interim position was set to expire after only six months.

The office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) released an announcement Tuesday informing Canadians that interim PBO Jason Jacques’s six-month term had expired Monday. The announcement noted parliamentarians will not have access to the office’s services until a replacement is made.
