Liberals exploring tobacco sales ban for those born after 2008
Liberal Health Minister Marjorie Michel says she is “looking into” the logistics of imposing an outright ban on selling tobacco products to anyone born after 2008.
After the U.K. introduced a bill that would impose a generational ban on the sale of tobacco products to anyone born after 2008, federal Health Minister Marjorie Michel says she is considering a similar measure in Canada.
On Parliament Hill, reporters asked Michel whether Canada would pursue such a ban. With a majority government, the Liberals could pass the measure into law. The proposal would mean anyone under 18 today would never be able to legally purchase nicotine products.
