The Liberals have successfully shut down debate on their controversial censorship law, Bill C-9, which critics fear could criminalize religious expression, after the Bloc Quebecois helped rush the legislation through the House of Commons.

Parliamentarians debated and the Liberals and Bloc successfully voted Tuesday on a motion to stifle debate and halt further study of the Liberal government’s hate speech bill, Bill C-9. The motion prevents any more witnesses from appearing before the committee.
