The Liberal government caved to U.S. negotiators after facing pressure to make concessions on two significant pieces of legislation, including the bill responsible for preventing Canadians from accessing news on Facebook.

American officials have focused on the Online News Act and the Online Streaming Act, which the U.S. side alleges unfairly target American technology companies and streaming platforms. The Liberal government has since indicated that while protections for the French language are non-negotiable, other parts of the bills are now part of the negotiations.
