Liberal government distances itself from CBC “prank” scandal, despite oversight
Conservative MP Aaron Gunn pressured the “Canadian Identity” ministry during Question Period about the CBC and APTN’s tax-funded “prank” show, feds decided to distance themselves from the project.
B.C. opposition MP Aaron Gunn, who was targeted by a CBC and APTN “prank” show production that allegedly lured him with promises the CBC wanted to present more balanced views and contrary opinions on attacks against Canada’s history, pressed the Liberal government during question period over the federally funded project.
During question period Monday, Gunn questioned the culture minister about the project, “Counting Coup: Northland Tales,” which received funding through a $6.3-million Canadian Heritage grant to the Indigenous Screen Office.
Liberal MP David Myles, parliamentary secretary to the minister of Canadian identity and culture, Marc Miller, distanced the government from the project despite the federal funding and oversight, saying the CBC operates independently.
