Liberal censorship bill passed without a religious exemption
The Liberals’ Bill C-9, the Combating Hate Act, passed its third reading in the House of Commons, without a religious exemption to “hate speech.”
The Liberals’ “Combating Hate Act,” which expands hate speech laws, has passed its third reading in the House of Commons with the help of the Bloc Québécois, with a controversial clause that amends the Criminal Code to remove religious expression as a defence for “hate crime” charges.
The bill, sponsored by Liberal cabinet minister Sean Fraser, passed the House of Commons on Wednesday, with 186 MPs voting for it and 137 voting against. The “Combating Hate Act” will now go to the Senate for three readings, but is expected to pass and become law.
