LEVY: Carney is Canada's most staged prime minister ever
Sue-Ann Levy writes, "I suspect Carney thinks he’s above the idea of mingling with the great unwashed Canadian and is very much uncomfortable in an unscripted situation."
Is this what substitutes for leadership in 2026?
I’m talking about the daily cheesy staged videos starring Prime Minister Mark Carney announcing something or other (that will likely never get done) or promoting his so-called importance in Canada and/or on the world stage.
Here we thought his predecessor, Mr Socks, was highly narcissistic.
This highly conceited effort to prop himself up is so staged, so fake, so phoney and so nauseating, one wonders how Carney and his team think this can pass for leadership. But they do.
That’s especially considering his media opportunities are staged and controlled as well and anyone who dares deviate from the approved script (especially female journalists) is met with scorn or is banned completely from his events.
I suspect Carney thinks he’s above the idea of mingling with the great unwashed Canadian and is very much uncomfortable in an unscripted situation.
His limited media scrums show that. We see him stumbling through answers with the same talking points in between, which are sandwiched many ums and uhs.
But he’s not the least bit uncomfortable with the spotlight when he can both control the messaging and is in friendly territory.
Yet his attempts to come across as human, “with it” and a man of action are pathetic.
As much as I disagreed with everything his predecessor stood for and despised his policies, he had charm.
Everything Carney does seems forced, stilted, phoney and performative.
Still, his Elbow’s Up cheerleaders lap it all up, proving far too many Canadians are trained seals who are either not bright, are lazy thinkers or need the government to tell them what to do.
As I discovered by doing an audit of his videos for the past three weeks, he is always the star performer, no matter how important the people surrounding him.
Can we say ultra-narcissistic?
In this cheesy video, he is kicking a soccer ball and kissing a trophy to promote the FIFA World Cup.
Every few days, he posts videos like this one, endeavouring to assure blind, deaf and dumb Canadians that “Canada is working,” that he’s making deals with countries other than the United States, that he’s a strong leader, that he has friends all over the world (China and Qatar being two examples) and that he is a man of action.
It is all simply performative B.S.
In this video, he is looking off somewhere and not even into the camera as he delivers his propaganda.
In this one, he endeavours to look important and official:
I find it loathsome that he is constantly pictured as the dominant image in a video or still photo, shaking the hands of various noteworthy people.
Considering he spends much of his time jetsetting around the world and pretending to make deals, I wonder if many of these images are created with AI.
I especially loved this staged photo pop with equally loathsome Barack Obama, whom he calls President in his tweet.
Last I looked, Obama has not been president for 10 years, although he does refuse to get off the stage. Yet considering Obama gave $1.7-B in 2016 to build up Iran’s nuclear arsenal, they have much in common.
In this video from two weeks ago in Toronto, he pretends he knows how to play basketball, even donning a sports shirt.
I have no idea why politicians like the Toronto mayor
Olivia Chow, or Carney or Justin Trudeau before him like to dress up in sports uniforms, or headscarves or crazy costumes.
Do they think that makes them more human?
They just look foolish, in many cases, for their cultural appropriation of the dress of other groups, or for pretending they are part of whatever team is involved in the photo opp.
(Speaking of which, I can’t wait to see what daffy costume Chow will be wearing at the Toronto Pride flag raising on Monday.)
These two photos/tweets have to be the ultimate in narcissism.
Carney is receiving the brave astronauts from Artemis II and we can hardly see them because his puss has to be front and centre.
It’s not all about you, Mr. Carney!
And this is no doubt AI.
The PM, in red tennis shoes, is greeting a bunch of allegedly gay people to commemorate the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
I can’t wait to see what he does for Pride Month, which starts next week.
Sadly his Elbow’s Up sycophants swallow it hook, line and sinker.
They ignore the phoniness of his posts.
They see him shaking hands and acting important and truly believe he’s working hard.
They are so easily manipulated by this propaganda, it’s beyond belief.
The legacy media would never call it out for fear they’d lose their bailouts or be stigmatized.
In short, he has Canada’s weaklings and lazy media right where he wants them.
They will never see that it’s all theatre and nothing more.
