"Let's join the USA!" Fiery Billboard in Alberta Sparks 51st State Debate
Provocative sign reignites debate over Alberta’s future and fuels backlash from local officials.
A bold new billboard in Bowden, Alberta, is turning heads—and stirring controversy. The sign reads: “Tell Danielle! Let’s Join the USA!” and features a photo of Premier Danielle Smith with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The photo was taken during a recent visit to President Trump’s Florida residence in Mar-a-Lago earlier this year.
Funded by The America Fund, a group linked to former Wexit Alberta members, the billboard pushes the idea of Alberta breaking away from Canada.
Local leaders aren’t having it. Bowden’s mayor swiftly distanced the town from the message, saying, “The community is not happy about it in any way, shape, or form.”
The America Fund argues Alberta would be better off as an American state, blaming Ottawa’s policies of blocking pipelines and printing money causing inflation and the cost of living crisis.
The sign has reignited long-standing frustrations over federal control, energy regulations, and equalization payments.
Separatist political movements have existed in Alberta since the 1930s and spiked during the 1970s when Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau imposed his devastating National Energy Plan. The movement picked up steam again when Pierre’s son Justin Trudeau was elected in 2015. In 2017 stated that he wants to “phase out” use of the Alberta oil sands, and since then has introduced anti-energy legislation including Bill C-69.
President Trump’s recent comments about making Canada the 51st state have enraged many Canadians, but a significant minority of Canadians would prefer to be American.
Professor Jordan B. Peterson recently wrote in the National Post that Canada has to offer Alberta a better deal than what President Trump is offering.
I am a very proud Albertan. I don't have anytime for the busted cnocept of Canada. The prairie provinces have always been used as a cash cow in one way or anther since the corrupt confederation agreement was es tablished. The east took our production to profit by. When that wasn't good enough the took our profits in taxation, such as equalization. We would be a 100% better off on our own. If the east wants to do something about it, they'd best dump quebec.
I am a proud Albertan and Canadian! I don't want to become a part of America.
