The federal government’s latest attack on free expression is straight out of 1984.
An Access to Information memo obtained by Blacklock’s Reporter shows the Industry Department is weighing legal action against social media users accused of spreading “false and misleading information.” The heavily redacted 35-page memo offers no details on the proposed legal action.
This contrasts with the Liberal government’s past stance against internet control as a human rights threat.

U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra says trade relations between the two countries “have a ways to go yet” just days after the U.S. opted out of extending CUSMA, sending the North American trade pact into an annual review process.

Liberal minister defends appointing more party donors to judiciary
Liberal donor appointments to the judiciary continue under a decade of Liberal rule—a pattern Attorney General Sean Fraser is unsurprisingly nonchalant about.
“I will on occasion have a candidate’s political activities flagged before a final appointment is made,” Fraser testified at the Commons justice committee Monday, as first reported by Blacklock’s Reporter.
In 2023, the Department of Justice said ministers do not receive information on political donations or affiliation when assessing judicial candidates.
“That is not something I seek information about before making appointments,” Fraser clarified, adding that aides tell him in due course. Keep Reading
