A judicial recount has confirmed that Conservative MP Kathy Borrelli will hold the riding of Windsor—Tecumseh—Lakeshore, ensuring the Conservatives maintain their hold on the constituency.
A judicial recount has confirmed that Conservative MP Kathy Borrelli will hold the riding of Windsor—Tecumseh—Lakeshore, ensuring the Conservatives maintain their hold on the hotly contested constituency.
More than 70,000 ballots had to be recounted over the three-day process, with lawyers representing both parties making legal arguments regarding contested ballots.
Elections Canada confirmed Borrelli’s victory over former Liberal MP Irek Kusmierczyk, who was seeking re-election, by a margin of four votes late Thursday night.
Borrelli had been declared the initial winner by 233 votes following the election.
However, after a validation by Elections Canada staff, that margin narrowed to 77 votes.
Kusmierczyk requested a recount the following week and received approval on May 9.
Borrelli will now join the Conservatives in Ottawa on Monday when Parliament returns.
The Bloc Québécois are currently challenging a judicial recount for the riding of Terrebonne after the riding flipped to the Liberals by a single vote.
Elections Canada acknowledged further irregularities involving five more mail-in ballots in the Terrebonne decision.
CPC first won by 277 ballots. Then after recount the CPC wins by 77 ballots. Next count CPC only wins by 4 ballots. In all recounts at every recount, the Libs always seem to increase in numbers. LOL. Nothing to see year.
Libs need 2 more seats for a majority. They will keep cheating until they get it.
Elections Canada should have an education campaign on common reasons for contested ballots. Every vote should matter. There needs to be transparency on the criteria for deciding to reject a ballot.
