Judge blocks order to strip man of citizenship he obtained through deception

A Federal Court judge has granted Saleem Bapari, a 41-year-old British Columbia resident, a new opportunity to retain his Canadian citizenship, despite admitting to acquiring it through deception.

A Federal Court judge has granted Saleem Bapari, a 41-year-old British Columbia resident, a new opportunity to retain his Canadian citizenship, despite admitting to acquiring it through deception.

In 2024, the federal Minister of Immigration moved to strip Bapari of his citizenship, alleging it was obtained through “lying, fraud, or by purposely hiding important information,” in violation of the Immigration Act.
