A nine-month-old baby was bear sprayed during a recent Hamilton break-and-enter, according to police.

Hamilton police said the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on May 28 at a home near Upper Paradise Road and Stone Church Road.

In their news release, authorities said they received multiple calls about a “large disturbance.”

Police then allege that a 15-year-old male “from Hamilton” showed up at the residence in a stolen vehicle, forced his way into the home, discharged bear spray and produced a knife.

Four family members sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack, police said.

The family eventually forced the two suspects out of the home and held one down until police arrived.

Investigators said a second suspect was involved in the incident but did not provide any more details on what role he played in the break-in and assault.

The main suspect, a 15-year-old Hamiltonian, has been charged with assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance with intent to cause bodily harm, breaking and entering and a handful of other criminal offences.

Although True North nor the police can release the name of the suspect due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, four additional charges of failing to abide by a release order and a staggering seven more charges related to failing to comply with a previous “youth sentence,” would suggest the teenager suspect already has an extensive criminal record.

The second suspect, meanwhile, has not yet been identified and remains unaccounted for.

He was described as a white male wearing all-black clothing.

Police are appealing to homeowners in the area to check their CCTV cameras for anything that might help identify the suspect.
