How to Save Canada in Three Not-so-easy Steps
My diabolical Christmas eve tweet went viral because destroying Canada at this point seems easy. To contrast, here is my New Year's Eve post of how we could start to turn things around.
How to Save Canada in Three Easy Steps:
My Christmas Eve tweet (How to Destroy Canada in Three Easy Steps) prompted lots of interesting conversation!
I love those who want to stay and fight for Canada, and I respect those who believe Canada has already fallen.
Now let’s do the OPPOSITE thought experiment. Drastic times call for drastic measures. Here is my plan on how to save Canada in three (not-so easy) steps:
1. DEPORT:
Canada enjoyed a broad bipartisan consensus on immigration for many years. Canada’s merit-based point system allowed us to recruit top applicants in every field, while also considering who would be a good cultural fit for our country.
Trudeau didn’t just break that consensus, he doused the system in gasoline and put a match to it. The only way to rectify this is to ask everyone who is not a citizen to leave.
Cancel all visas. Mass deport. End temporary work visas, end student visas, pause all immigration streams, secure the border and reject all pending asylum claims. Canada needs a few years to integrate immigrants and stabilize as a society.
I would also propose ending dual citizenship and implementing a global tax system where citizens pay taxes no matter where they reside. Start revoking citizenship from those who don’t comply.
2. CUT:
Trudeau massively expanded the government, and he infused a toxic woke ideology into our institutions. Both need to go.
If Canada is serious about fixing our future and restoring our birth right, we need to be ruthless. DOGE-Can (or MOGE) needs to drastically reduce the government footprint in our country.
Eliminate entire departments of government. Limit the number of civil servants at all levels of government (eg 10 private sector employees to 1 govt worker ratio rather than the current 4/5-1).
End perpetual welfare and EI. Defund all DEI and CRT programs, defund HR offices Prevent government welfare cheques from being spent abroad (i.e. create a prepaid debit card for all OAS, GIS, CCB, carbon rebates, provincial welfare etc.) Get rid of the boutique tax credit system that creates weird incentives and unintended consequences.
Eliminate income taxes. Massively lower corporate taxes so that Canada has a business advantage in North America. Cut five regulations every day.
While we’re at it, introduce a few constitutional amendments to limit future reckless spending, such as:
-Debt brake — growth in government spending cannot exceed GDP growth
-Ban sub-sovereign borrowing. No more provincial debt.
-Recruit people much smarter than me to write a dozen more of these
3. BUILD:
Implement a national military service to unite all young Canadians, teach them to be healthy and self-sufficient, cultivate real patriotism, and administer an IQ test to put the brightest minds on the right track to make a difference.
Stop funding universities and fund young Canadians instead, with an emphasis on STEM. Anyone who graduates and takes a job in Canada gets their student debt forgiven. If someone chooses to take a job in the US or abroad, they must pay for their own university costs.
Stop subsidizing useless degrees. Subsidize STEM and job-producing training instead.
Create real incentives for the things our society desperately needs. Entrepreneurship and innovation in the economy, families and children in our communities. Anyone who starts a business won’t pay taxes for two years. Anyone who gets married and has children won’t pay taxes for five. (A 1.26 birth-rate is a society in free fall. Canada will collapse if we don’t create a healthier environment for families and children. Tax incentives alone will not fix this, but it’s a good start. Creating hope and optimism for the future will also help.)
We need to build more resources and infrastructure around health care. We need more options, not fewer. Kill the sacred cow and open up the system to competition.
Move things north. Give away land to anyone who wants to move to our Northern cities. Build a massive airport in Yellowknife. Build more infrastructure to connect small communities and native reserves.
Get tough on our advisories (China, Iran & Russia) and build deeper ties with our friends and allies. I like Kevin O’Leary’s suggestion of a common North American currency and national security apparatus. Stop treating Americans like the enemy — we have a common language, border, market and similar cultural heritage. America’s booming economy and energetic optimism will help us through this economic hangover.
2025 will be a turning point. We need change. We need drastic reform to save our failing country. Let’s get it done. Let’s go Canada! Happy New Year, friends. God bless.
