Housing gap could be worse than gov projects, according to new data

Last month, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation released a report that suggested the country's housing starts need to almost double to make housing affordable again.

Last month, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation released a report that suggested the country's housing starts need to almost double to make housing affordable again. But given the population growth in some municipalities, even that might be a significant understatement.

A Housing Market Report released by Statistics Canada on Monday showcased that some Canadian municipalities have built less than 10 per cent of houses compared to their population growth between 2021 and 2024.
